Ousley Double Suits Lady Warriors
Alli Ousley came through for her team Friday night, cracking a two-out double to plate Meghan Fretz for the game-winning run in a 6-5 varsity softball win over Manchester Friday evening at Wawasee.
Ousley had two doubles in the game and was joined in the offensive fireworks by Kylee Rostochak, who had a double among her three hits, and scored a run.
Wawasee jumped out to a 4-0 lead after a quadruple in the fourth inning, but Manchester chipped away to score a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the top of the seventh to tie Wawasee, which added its fifth run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Wawasee collected 11 hits on Manchester pitcher Brooklyn Howard, who struck out 11 Lady Warriors in the tough luck loss. Danielle Gunkel worked into the sixth for Wawasee, giving up three hits and three walks before making way for Amber Lemberg, who earned the win in relief. Lemberg struck out three while giving up two hits.
The Lady Warriors (4-1) will travel to Bourbon tomorrow morning for a game at Triton.
Kayleigh Rhodes led Wawasee’s JV offense with two doubles, and the Lady Warriors plated eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 12-2, six inning win against Manchester. Hannah Haines earned her fourth win of the season, fanning six Lady Squires. Wawasee’s JV (4-0) will return to the diamond Monday at Warsaw.
