North Webster Seeks Compliance Standards Grant
North Webster Town Council moved one step closer to obtaining a grant to assist with bringing the current wastewater treatment plant and sewer system in compliance with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s required standards.
The second hearing was held last night for the $450,000 grant application to the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. After the hearing, the council voted to apply for the grant. This action was recommended by town attorney Jack Birch.
The grant is to be matched by the town issuing a bond in the near future. The bond is dependent upon the completion of the sewer rate study which is now underway.
A bid for the electrical work on the new town storage building was awarded to Dave’s Electric, North Webster. That bid was $11,375. A competing bid of $11,711 from Middlebury Electric was also considered. “The storage building is being framed,” reported Utility Manager Mike Noe of Severn Trent Services. A change order for the building to add seven windows was also approved.
Police chief Greg Church requested three new Breathalyzer machines be purchased. “I recently tried to have all four the department owns re-calibrated. Only one was able to be completed. The other three cannot be saved.” The council approved a total of $1,380 for three new units.
The next meeting of the council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, party room, North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
