Membership Needs Discussed By Chamber Board
Membership was actively discussed during the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce board meeting, April 2, between finding ways to provide the best support for area chamber businesses and the welcoming of five new chamber businesses.
Executive director Tammy Cotton shared the results of a survey distributed to chamber members; the survey is intended to help board members when they put together a strategic plan in May.
The survey asked businesses what they expected from the chamber, along with what chamber services they have used, what services would they like to see more of, what their business needs are, among other questions. Twenty-five members responded, and the chamber’s ambassadors plan to gather further feedback prior to the planning meeting.
Ambassador task force chair Chip Erwin stated they will be prioritizing results from the survey prior to meeting with members. While on the topic of the ambassador’s program, board members approved the purchase of name tags with the chamber logo on them, which will be worn by ambassadors when making their visits.
Additionally, board members approved five new chamber businesses: Heartland Spine, Goshen; Down Under Tattoo, Syracuse; Polywood, Syracuse; Bill’s Automotive, Syracuse; and Wholesale Fireworks, Syracuse.
The young business professionals group is gathering steam with board member and liaison to the group Tricia Small stating members are excited and already forming ideas for events and where they want to focus.
Small stated members have expressed interest in education and working with students in the Wawasee Community School Corp. Another topic brought up the group wants to look into is housing, particularly the need for mid-range starter homes.
The group will be deciding on a name in the near future and plans to hold a Texas Hold ‘em tournament as means to introduce themselves to the community.
