Paul Snyder, 82, of Claypool, Ind., passed away at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Ind surrounded by his loving family after his second brave battle with cancer.

He was born in Luther, Ind., to Harry A. Snyder and Emma A. (Perry) Snyder on April 12, 1931. On Nov. 21, 1954, he married Betty A. (Perry) Snyder who preceded him in death. On Aug. 27, 1968, he married Kay L. (Adams) Walton who survives.

He graduated from Bippus High School in 1949, and served in the U.S. Army from April 1951 in Augsberger, Germany with an honorable discharge in April 1953. He graduated from the Police Academy in Plainfield, Ind., and served as a Warsaw City Patrolman for 9 years. He also worked in construction, as a tree trimmer and was a semi truck driver for 60 years.

He was a generous and loving husband, brother, uncle, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. He lived his life to the fullest, enjoyed telling stories and was quite a character. His family was his pride and joy. He loved God, his country and was always willing to help a friend.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #49 and the Moose Lodge both in Warsaw, Ind. He was a founding member of the Bull Haulers Association.

Surviving are four daughters: Paula (Tony) Calhoun, Warsaw, Ind.; Sally (Jeff) Hufford, Chandler, Ariz.; Tina (Jay) Harting, Silver Lake, Ind.; Sandra (Sam) (David) Engle, Claypool; one son: James Walton; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Virginia Doenges, South Whitley, Ind.; Esther Snyder, Winona Lake, Ind.; and Jo Ann Byers, Warsaw; three brothers: Edward Snyder, Bippus, Ind.; Richard Snyder, Muskegon, Mich.; and John Snyder, Leesburg; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son: Richard (Rick) Snyder.

A celebration of Paul’s life is planned from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29, in the Claypool Lions Club. Cards, photos and stories are appreciated.
