Yeo Honored By Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS – Valparaiso’s Clay Yeo has been honored following his clutch performance in the Crusaders win over Oakland on Sunday afternoon.
Yeo, a former standout for Triton, has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Yeo, who had played just three minutes over Valpo’s last three games entering Sunday and did not play Friday against Detroit, was ready when his number was called against the Grizzlies. Yeo played 25 minutes and was tasked defensively with marking the NCAA’s career 3-point record holder, Travis Bader, while on the court. The freshman limited Bader to just 1-of-8 shooting from beyond the 3-point line during his time on the floor.
Offensively, Yeo connected on a 3-pointer in the first half and hit two more triples in a three-minute stretch midway through the second half. But Yeo saved his biggest shot for last, knocking down his fourth 3-pointer of the game from the right corner with 7.4 seconds to play for the margin of victory in the Crusaders’ 63-60 win. The four 3-pointers marked a new career best for the freshman, while his 12 points were the most Yeo has scored against a Division I opponent.
Yeo becomes the third different Crusader to earn Freshman of the Week honors from the league office this season, as Alec Peters has earned the award three times and Lexus Williams has been honored twice. Yeo and the rest of the Crusaders return to action Saturday evening at Milwaukee.
