Edith Ina Konkle
Edith Ina Konkle, 89, of Claypool, Ind., passed away at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 8, 2014, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Ind.
She was born Feb. 29, 1924, to William and Viola (Vore) Moore in Kosciusko County, Ind. A lifetime Kosciusko County resident, she was united in marriage to Melvin Konkle in Warsaw, on Aug. 31, 1943, while Melvin was on leave from the United States Army Air Corps.
A homemaker, she had several occupations , which included the General Electric Corporation of Fort Wayne, Ind., during WWII, a waitress for the Steer Inn of Silver Lake, Ind., and she served as a receptionist for Dr. Joseph Orr, D.C. of Warsaw.
She was a member of the Claypool United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many church functions, the Order of the Eastern Star 88 of Warsaw, an a honorary member and volunteer of the Claypool Lions Club and she served as a volunteer with her husband’s Masonic and Mizpah Shrine organizations. In a recent article celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, Edith was quoted as saying “It has been important to keep God in the center of our marriage”.
She is survived by her husband; sons: Dan (Clara) Konkle, Heber Springs, Ariz.; Gale (Nancy) Konkle, Logansport, Ind.; grandchildren: Jonathon, David, Michael and Douglas Konkle; Carey Waters; Brad, Eric and Joel Konkle; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by a son: George; and siblings: Helen Kinch, Lloyd Moore and Nellie Wilkerson.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, with an Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. conducted by O.E.S. #88. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the funeral chapel. Pastor Michael Settles of the Claypool United Methodist Church will officiate the services. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Claypool.
