Gloria Kern
Gloria Kern, 85, of North Webster, Ind., passed away on Jan. 8, 2014, at Mason Healthcare in Warsaw, Ind.
She was born Oct. 1, 1928, in Syracuse, Ind., to Donald and Jane (Burkhart) LeCount. On Feb. 22, 1947, she married Phillip Kern, who preceded her in 2004.
Jean started her first business in Syracuse owning and operating a beauty shop in her home on SR 13 after graduating from Fort Wayne Beauty College. In 1962 she and Phil purchased the North Webster Dairy Queen which the ran for 18 years. She also had a wig shop, bakery, and a pizza franchise in North Webater.
She lived in Meritt Island, Fla., after retirement in the winter months along with Phil for many years. She was a member of the Syracuse Church of God.
She is survived by her three sons: Michael Kern, North Webster; Greg Kern, Warsaw, Ind.; and Kevin Kern, North Webster; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.
There will be a memorial service at a later date with interment in the Syracuse Cemetery.
