Wawasee Sports Wrap – Sept. 26
With a shot differential of 16-6 in favor of Wawasee over Lakeland, one would think the Warriors would have coasted in boys soccer Thursday night in Lagrange. Statistics sometimes aren’t always indicative as the two sides fought to a 1-1 draw.
Rasmus Rich got Wawasee on the board in the first half with a goal, assisted on the play by Adrian Krabb. Lakeland found the equalizer in the second half on a tally from Eric Carmona, assisted by Dustin Cunningham.
Fernando Camargo would lead Wawasee in shots with eight, besting the entire Lakeland team by two. Rich was one of four Warriors with a pair of shots on net. The tie places at 4-5-4 on the season while Lakeland moves to 7-5-2 overall.
“The guys played with passion, it was exciting to see them all play together,” stated Wawasee skipper Jordan Sharp.
Austin Shrack, Zeb Glon and Carlos Camargo all found the back of the net for the Warriors in a 3-0 JV win over Lakeland.
The Wawasee program will look toward Saturday with a cross-county grudge match with Warsaw.
Plymouth Runs Past Wawasee
Wawasee showed defensive fight in the first half with Plymouth Thursday night, holding the scoreboard empty through 40 minutes. A second half surge from the visiting Pilgrims, however, produced three goals to give Plymouth a 3-0 victory in Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer.
Plymouth scored all three of its goals in the final 20 minutes of the match, which left conflicting reviews from Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch.
“We played pretty well tonight, especially the last 20 minutes of the first half,” Heinisch said. “A lot of good offensive sequences during that period. We could not sustain that performance in the second half and they ultimately wore us down.”
Wawasee (0-13, 0-4 NLC) will try to mount some offense Saturday as former Wawasee girls head coach Dodd Cunningham and former Wawasee boys skipper Peter Lucht bring their Warsaw Tigers to Syracuse for a morning varsity tilt.
NorthWood Hands Wawasee First Loss
NorthWood put together a complete football game Thursday night in Nappanee, handing Wawasee its first loss in the process in a 39-13 final in favor of the Panthers. The loss sets Wawasee back to 4-1 on the season.
The Warriors will face Plymouth next Thursday in Syracuse.
