Yogi’s Paddle Board Yoga On Winona Lake
I’m face down, legs outstretched, holding the weight of my body with my arms, which are partially extended under my chest. The sun beats down on my back. Sweat beads on my forehead. My breath is stuck in my lungs.
This is my first attempt at yoga. I believe I’m in what is called a table-top, or perhaps a poorly-executed downward dog. I’m not sure. I’m new to this.
All of a sudden a wave rolls under my board. A wave? Board? Yes, I’m not doing just any ole yoga. This is Yogi’s Paddle Board Yoga.
The wave knocks me off my board and into the cool, refreshing waters of Winona Lake. I emerge invigorated, despite a few snickers from the others in the class, ready to get back on my paddle board and give this another go. While it is relaxing, trying to do yoga on a paddle board is quite a workout.
“It’s rare that anyone leaves and doesn’t have a good time,” says instructor Daniel Huber. According to him the paddle board/yoga combination exploded about five years ago in Florida and California.
Huber has only been doing yoga for nine months. “I kind of got addicted to it quickly,” he says. “Boga offered training this past March. I went out to California and got certified.”
“This was just a shortened summer run,” says Huber, who’s been hosting the paddle board yoga classes since August. Now that he’s set up with boards and paddles, he plans to bring the program back next year from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

As long as the weather stays warm, Huber will continue hosting classes.
