Ladies Add Two More ‘W’s To Résumé
In a match that wasn’t originally on the schedule, Wawasee saw a pair of old foes at Maxwelton Tuesday night and added a couple of wins to the ledger. Matching its best season output at 179, Wawasee beat Elkhart Central (189) and Fairfield (198) on the rolling hills of the border course in the final hurrah at home for the green and gold.
Aubrey Schmeltz posted a career-best 40 in her freshman campaign to lead Wawasee (13-3), with a 45 from Elizabeth Jackson and two 47s from Mikala Mawhorter and Kamryn Foy. Kylee Rostochak added a 52 to round out the Wawasee varsity five.
Elkhart Central (10-4) were led by the 46s of Alysa Miller and Frannie Rodino and Fairfield (5-5) was paced by the 46 of Regina Reber.
The Lady Warriors will tee it up again tomorrow, Wednesday, at South Shore against West Noble and Whitko.
Tennis Continues To Struggle In NLC
Wawasee still holds an above .500 record overall at 6-5, but is now 0-3 on the year in the Northern Lakes Conference after losing 4-1 at Goshen Tuesday.
Kyler Love had to grind out the only victory for the Warriors, 6-4, 7-5 against Hudson Kay at one singles. Otherwise, it was all red and white on the other four courts.
Austin Stutzman at two singles and Luke Rush at three singles each won in straight sets. Stutzman won three and one over Todd Hauser and Rush one and one versus Luke Smith.
Derick Hostetler and Peter Vukovich took home a two and one win at one doubles against Dylan Houser and Chase Myers while Zach Troyer and Logan Troyer claimed a 7-6, 6-1 win over Cal Heinisch and Jake Hutchinson at two doubles.
Goshen won all six JV courts to seal the festivities at Goshen Middle School.
Wawasee will take on Northridge Thursday.
