Margaret E. Jones
Margaret E. Jones, 83, of Rochester, Ind., passed away at 12:25 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born in Glasgow, Ky., on June 15, 1930, to James and Ova Bunch Word, she grew up as one of four children. In May of 1948, Margaret earned the distinction of being named valedictorian of her graduation class at Jackson Township High School near Frankfort, Ind.
On May 28, 1949, in Frankfort, Margaret E. Word married Kenneth C. Jones. Together they shared life’s adventures for over 38 years while raising three wonderful children Nancy, Janet and Joe. The family tree continued to grow with the added blessings of eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Margaret was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for more than a half century. She was a skilled legal secretary serving in several law offices in Rochester over the years. A competitive card player, she also enjoyed the game of bridge-a-rama.
An accomplished pianist, Margaret played for her personal enjoyment. She also enjoyed gardening and was an outdoorsmen who loved to camp and fish.
Margaret is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Ted) Baker, Warsaw, Ind.; and Janet (Chet) Los, Syracuse, Ind.; a son: Joseph (Ronda) Jones, Seymour, Ind.; grandchildren: Erica (Gerald) Potter, Waterford, Mich.; Jaime (fiancé Jason Ladd) Snyder, Warsaw; Heather (Nate) Stockman, Warsaw; Chet (Eleacia) Los Jr., Syracuse; Chelsea Los, Syracuse; Chandler Los, Syracuse; Kurt Jones and Brett Jones, both of Seymour; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerry T. Jones, James E. Jones, Jerine Brittain and Mary Pawloske.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Kenny; a sister: Christine Buttrey; and two brothers: Jim Word and Bill Edwards.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Jeff Pfeifer officiating. She will be laid to eternal rest next to her husband at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Margaret’s favorite charity, Gentiva Hospice.
