Warsaw Community Public Library Announcement
Article by
Laurie Voss, WCPL Circulation Supervisor
What’s on your bookshelf? Are you a collector of book or a reader of books? I used to read so much, but lately, and ironically, because I work in the library I find myself reading a lot less than I used to. I guess like most people, I find myself busy with other things and just don’t take the time.
That doesn’t stop me from collecting them though! At any garage sale, library book sale or Goodwill you can find me in the book section, scouring for something I don’t have yet.
Who are your favorite authors? I will pick up anything by James Patterson, Maeve Binchey, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich and David Baldacci. When you are perusing books, do you let the cover decide if you buy it or not? I do that more often than not. If the cover art is intriguing then I figure the book will be equally as intriguing.
Do you keep your books after you read them or donate them for someone else to enjoy? I will normally donate them to the library, but there are a few books that were so good or spoke to me in some way that I just cannot part with them. One example is By Sun and Candlelight by Susan Sallis. I can’t really say what attracted me to this haunting story of love and friendship but I have always remembered it.
Another is South of the Big Four by Don Kurtz. This book actually used the local towns of Warsaw, Claypool and Mentone in its plot about the tough life of farming in the Midwest. The father in the book reminded me so much of my father-in-law at the time. Kind of grouchy and rough, but easy to love at the same time. I couldn’t put it down, and years afterward, still think about it. It’s a good book that can keep popping into your thoughts years later.
I hope that by coming to the library you can find books that touch your heart and live in your memory for years to come.
Just a reminder, due to budget constraints, the Warsaw Community Public Library will be closed the week of Aug. 19-24. No items will be due during this closure and we ask that you not return any items until we open again on Aug. 26. Remember to stock up up on your viewing and reading materials before we close. Withdraw can be a painful thing!
