Program Helping Residents Save On Prescriptions
Kosciusko County taxpayers saved more than $2,500 in June through the National Association of Counties Prescription Discount Card Program. Residents used the discount drug card to fill more than 200 prescriptions.
Kosciusko County residents saved an average of $10.93 per prescription in June. The County has saved more than $657,000 since it joined the program in 2007, and residents have used the drug card for savings on more than 55,000 prescriptions.
“Prescription medications have grown increasingly expensive, and this program helps Kosciusko County residents save some money on their pharmaceuticals,” Kosciusko County Commissioners said in a statement. “We are glad that we were able to offer this program to our taxpayers to help them save on much needed items like prescription drugs. We hope the program continues to benefit taxpayers in the future.”
Kosciusko is one of more than 1,400 counties nationwide participating in the program. Nationally, residents of participating counties have saved more than $483 million.
According to NACo, Indiana residents use their discount drug cards more often than any other state. Indiana residents saved more than $630,000 in June 2013.
The NACo Prescription Discount Card Program is a partnership between participating counties, NACo and CVS Caremark. The program was created in 2005. Participants can save up to 75 percent on some prescriptions. The average savings rate is 24 percent.
