Plymouth Alive In Pierceton, New Paris Battling In Flora
A long weekend of baseball in three communities will have teams from five little leagues battling Monday night for the right to Town & Country state titles.
Pierceton is hosting the 12-U baseball tourney, and will have the two top seeds meeting for the hardware. Top seed Plymouth, after losing to Alexandria in the first round, battled back through the loser’s bracket, including a 9-0 win over Rochester and a 9-5 win against Nappanee in Sunday’s matchups. Nappanee had reached the final four, but lost 7-2 to Frankton, which will await Plymouth as the home team Monday night.
Flora is the host for the 10-U bracket, where New Paris carries the flag as the team to beat after beating both Plymouth and Delphi. Ole Miss rallied from an opening round loss to New Paris to work its way back to the final, edging Delphi, 12-11, in the getback game late Sunday. Ole Miss will now rematch with New Paris for the 10-U state crown.
The battle at Monticello in the 8-U bracket will feature two teams that have been putting a lot of runs on the board. Russiaville scored 25 runs Sunday in beating Kokomo UCT and Plymouth in loser’s bracket games to reach the final, and will face a Frankfort team that smacked Plymouth, 13-10, in its semi-final matchup.
All three championship games will begin at 6 p.m. tonight in the respective host towns. Frankton (12-U), New Paris (10-U) and Frankfort (8-U) are all undefeated and will need to be beaten twice in the double elimination format.
