NIPSCO Plans $1 Billion Project
According to a recent filing with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Co. is proposing a $1 billion modernization initiative that will see infrastructure upgrades throughout the region.
NIPSCO says it plans to revamp underground lines, conduit, poles and circuits. Construction could get underway next year and could lead to price increases for consumers over a 7-year period.
NIPSCO is asking the IURC to approve of a new electric rate schedule “provide for timely recovery of 80% of approved capital expenditures and TDSIC costs.”
