Ivy Tech Ranks First For Associate Degrees
Ivy Tech Community College ranks first among two-year institutions nationwide for the number of associate degrees awarded.
In a report entitled “2013 Top 100 Associate Degree Producers” released today by Community College Week, Ivy Tech tops the national list with 8,940 associate degrees conferred, an increase of 12 percent from a year earlier. The college also ranked second in the number of certificates the college granted, totaling 3,316 and representing a 17 percent increase over the previous year. Both degree and certificate numbers, which combined totaled 12,256 utilized in the report, were based on 2011-12 totals. Ivy Tech estimates its 2012-13 combined numbers may exceed 16,500 when final reports are published.
According to Community College Week, “Ivy Tech is viewed as a key to Indiana’s workforce development efforts, as well as a critical solution to the state’s lackluster performance in producing residents with college degrees.”
“We are focused on ensuring the success of our students. We work with the most complex student body in the state as an open enrollment institution. Seeing improvement in these numbers, which take a holistic look at our student body as opposed to just a small subset of our students, is rewarding for everyone here at Ivy Tech but more importantly for our students who work so hard every day,” Ivy Tech President Thomas J. Snyder said. “We will continue to provide access to affordable higher education for students looking to earn a credential to take into the workplace and for those looking to save money and start with us and transfer their credits. It is our dual mission and what makes us unique to any other institution of higher education in Indiana.”
Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually.
