Meijer Opens New Warsaw Store Tomorrow
Meijer’s opening of a new supercenter in Warsaw is slated to take place at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow. The 190,000-square-foot store at 1200 Lake City Highway will create more than 250 new jobs and provide local residents high quality products, fresh produce and a full-service pharmacy that puts family health care first.
With 32 stores spread throughout Indiana, the new supercenter is built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards and is the latest in a $200 million investment this year that include the construction of six new Meijer supercenters, extensive remodel projects for five additional stores in Michigan and Illinois, and major upgrades to two distribution centers. The family-owned retailer, which opened its first store in 1934, now has more than 200 stores throughout the Midwest.
“Our team has worked very hard to get this supercenter ready and we’re excited to bring the Meijer difference to our new neighbors in Warsaw and surrounding communities,” said Hank Meijer, Co-Chairman of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer. “We feel at home here, and we believe it’s important to continue to focus on the communities where we’re located. Whether it’s through donations to local organizations or in supporting farmers across the Midwest, we’re focused on growing together with our customers.”
“I am pleased to welcome the brand new Meijer supercenter to Warsaw,” Mayor Joe Thallemer said. “In addition to new and expanded retail opportunities for our local shoppers, I am also excited about Meijer’s history of engagement with its local communities, local job creation, and charitable giving. I, along with our community, are excited for this week’s grand opening.”
Meijer will kick off its opening celebration on Thursday, with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting event inside the store, followed by remarks by Meijer officials and local dignitaries, along with the presentation of a check for $500 to the Warsaw Fire Department and $500 to the Warsaw Police Department, and $1,000 in Meijer gift cards to the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
The store will also feature Grand Opening events, beginning Sunday, and include daily giveaways, family activities and Best Summer Ever Sweepstakes contests each week through July. Notable events include an inflatable obstacle course and $50 Meijer Gift Card giveaways every 15 minutes on June 16, a cooking demonstration with Food Network star Herb Messa on June 22, and a Casting Clinic by professional fisherman Kendall Ulsh on June 29. Best Summer Sweepstakes prizes will include a $1,000 Ultimate Grilling Package, a free Florida vacation, a Backyard BBQ Makeover, and free groceries for a year.
In addition to the retailer’s traditional grocery and merchandise offerings, garden center and 24-hour gas station, the new pharmacy will offer the company’s free prescription program as well as clinical services and immunizations designed to promote family health. The prescription program includes leading oral generic antibiotics with a special focus on prescriptions most often filled for children, prenatal vitamins and medications for those with diabetes and high cholesterol. Since its inception in 2006, the Meijer free prescription program has filled more than 14 million free prescriptions, saving Meijer customers nearly $200 million.
Meijer said the new supercenter will also offer more than 600 high quality varieties of fresh produce, a meat department that offers neighborhood butcher shop service with custom cuts of high quality meats and a bakery that carries fresh bread baked four times a day.
“As a pioneer of one-stop shopping, we’ve always strived to offer easy, affordable solutions to our neighbors and look forward to bringing value to Warsaw,” Meijer said. “Whether it’s a quick meal for the family, getting your yard ready for summer or seeking answers about a nagging health concern, these supercenters represent our ongoing commitment to help provide a healthier balanced lifestyle for anyone who steps through our door.”
