Nina Faye Opple, 89, formerly of Akron, Ind., and Wynnfield Crossing of Rochester, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, in her residence at Life Care Center of Rochester.

She was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Perry Township, Miami County, Ind.to Andrew and Bessie L. (Hinsey) Funnell. On June 24, 1945, in the Chili Baptist Church, she was married to Elbert Lorraine Opple. He preceded her in death.

Nina was a bookkeeper and bank teller as well as a homemaker. She attended the Akron Church of God and was a volunteer at the Akron Elementary School.

She is survived by her son: Ronald J. (Alice) Opple, Rochester; grandchildren: Kendra, Angela, Elaina, Janelle and Tyler; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husband; a son: Dennis Opple; a daughter: Joyce E. Howard; sisters: Katherine Kuntz and Bonnie Walters; and great-grandchild: Alec Michael Rife.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12, at the funeral home. Pastor Terry Canfield will officiate. Burial will take place in Akron Cemetery, Akron.
