Doris Ann Heckaman
Doris Ann Heckaman, 71, of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 1:15 p.m. Monday, June 3, 201, at her residence from natural causes.
She was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Kosciusko County, Ind., to Howard M. and E. Berniece (Fisher) Berger. She was a lifetime area resident and a 1959 graduate of Nappanee High School. Doris worked as a nurse for many years at Anglemyer Clinic in Nappanee, and was the first paramedic to serve on Nappanee EMS, serving from 1976 to 1986.
She enjoyed collecting angels and had a large collection. She was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church and a former member of the Hastings Island Chapel Church.
She married Kenneth L. Heckaman on May 25, 1962, in Nappanee. He preceded in death on Aug. 2, 2009.
She is survived by her daughters: Sharie Heckaman and Lisa (Brian) Lewis, both of Nappanee; a son: Brian Heckaman, Nappanee; sisters: Lynn Whittenberger, Kokomo, Ind.; Janice (James) Fackler, Syracuse, Ind.; and Margaret Bell, Matteson, Ill.; brothers: William Berger, New Paris, Ind.; and Steven (Connie) Berger, Wallingford, Vt.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. Friday, June 7, at South Union Cemetery. Revs. Jim Davidson and Jeff Fackler, a nephew of Doris, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Nappanee United Methodist Church.
