Helen May Wise
Helen May Wise, 93, of Claypool, Ind., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013, in her home.
She was born May 18, 1920, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Perry Earl Burch and Sarah Catherine (Trevey) Burch. She graduated from 1939 from Hammond High School. She lived most of her life in Kosciusko County, Ind.
On Dec. 25, 1941, she married Wilbur E. Wise in Chesterton, Ind. Helen was a homemaker and a former member of American Legion Auxiliary #16, Hammond, Ind., for more than 75 years. She was involved with Atwood Home Study, attended Christ United Church of Hammond, was a former member of Tri-Chem Instructor, Calumet Band Boosters of Gary and the Cedar Lake Conservation Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she enjoyed being with the children. She was caring and enjoyed doing for her family and others, loved to read – especially Western novels and historical reads.
Helen is survived by a daughter: Kathryn (Loren) Melton, Atwood, Ind.; two granddaughters: Sarah (Allen) Marsh, Warsaw; and Laura (Shane) Herring, Warsaw; a grandson: David E. Melton, Warsaw; three great-grandchildren: Jordan Herring, Kyleigh Herring and Elijah Herring, all of Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Wilbur E. Wise; her parents: Perry Earl and Sarah Catherine Burch; a sister: Betty Jane Cushman; two infant sons: Peter Wise and Kevin Wise; and an infant brother.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, in the funeral home with Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry, Bourbon First United Methodist Church, Bourbon, Ind. Graveside services will begin at noon Saturday at Prairie Grove Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Ind.
