Germonprez Effort Lifts Warriors
SYRACUSE – The final home boys golf meet for the Wawasee Warriors was not a glittery send-off it hoped Tuesday at South Shore Golf Club. Columbia City stopped by for the final regular season meet and pushed the Warriors to the brink.
A 157-157 tie in four-man scoring required a fifth-man score, which Wawasee got from Mason Germonprez and his 42 to get past the Eagles, which turned in a fifth score of 47 from Matt Perdich.
Wawasee carded its tally with a 38 from Jeffrey Moore, two 39s from Tristen Atwood and Dylan Cousins and a 41 from Luke Jackson.
City used a medalist 36 from Tyler Green and 37 from Spencer Kilmer, along with a 41 by Cameron Slarich and 43 by Mark Boyer.
The Wawasee JV closed out its season with a 182-198 win against the Eagles.
Next on the docket for the Warriors (11-7) is a trip to Black Squirrel on June 1 as part of the Fairfield Boys Golf Sectional. The assignment is different from recent years when Wawasee was part of the Warsaw Sectional, but now moving north as part of the 2013 realignment. The top three teams from the Fairfield Sectional will move onto the Warsaw Regional, which takes place June 6 at Stonehenge Country Club.
