Panthers Tame Warriors In NLC Finale
NAPPANEE – Tommy Klem twirled a gem Friday night, giving up just three hits as NorthWood shut out Wawasee, 6-0, in the final Northern Lakes Conference game for both clubs.
Klem struck out 13 batters in the complete game shutout for the Panthers, which had just beaten Wawasee less than two weeks ago by a 6-1 score.
At the plate, NorthWood received doubles from Hunter Lane, Kyle McCoy, Will Kirkwood and Trent Sellers. Wawasee’s Drew Anderson had two of the three hits, one a two-bagger.
NorthWood posted five of its six runs on Warrior starter Nathan Hare, opening the game with a four-run first inning. With the loss, Wawasee completes its NLC slate at 1-13 and are 3-18 overall.
Wawasee have three more non-conference games packed together before entering sectional play. The Warriors will travel to Lakeland for an 11 a.m. start Saturday, then visit the site of the Class 3-A Sectional 21 when it takes on West Noble Monday. Columbia City is scheduled to play at Wawasee Tuesday in a rain make-up game with the Warriors then having to gather itself for a first round sectional matchup with Fairfield Wednesday.
