Car enthusiasts from near and far are invited to zoom in to the annual Cruisin’ Cuse Car Show, sponsored by the Wawasee Kiwanis Club.

Preceding the show will be the annual cruise-in from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday on Main Street in uptown Syracuse. In addition, Friday’s activities will include food vendors, games and activities for the kids, music and more.

Local businesses often feature specials for car show attendees on Friday. Live music will include Big Daddy Dupree and the Broke & Hungry Blues Band from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce sponsors many of Friday’s events.

The show will begin bright and early, with registration from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Syracuse Community Center, 1013 N. Long Dr., Syracuse. The award ceremony will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m., with the annual cruise around the lake heading out at 3:15 p.m.

Motorcycles are also welcome to enter.

Cruisin Cuse features 27 judged classes, with first- and second-place trophies awarded in each. Special awards are also available for best of show, Kiwanis choice, police chief’s choice, best engine, best paint, best interior and best engineered hot rod.

Classes for judging will include pre-1935 Street Rod; 1935-1948 Street Rod; Late Model Original, 1974 to present; Muscle Car, original; Custom Car and Low-Rider; Modified Tri 5 Chevy, 1955, 1956, 1957; Mustang; Original Truck; Corvette 1953 to 1967; Corvette, 1984 to present; AMC/Mopar pre-1974 original; AMC/Mopar 1974 to present; Street Machine, including Pro Street; Special Interest; Classic Foreign, pre-1988; Jeep Wrangler, modified; Youth Truck/Car, ages 21 and younger; Motorbike, non-Harley; Harley; Original Collector, 1955 to 1973; Original Collector pre-1955; Muscle Car, modified; Modified truck; Corvette, 1968 to 1982; Camaro, original 1967 to 1992; Pontiac, pre-1988; and foreign, 1988 to present.

Other Saturday activities at the community center will include a DJ and food, plus door prizes from area merchants. The Best of Show winner will receive $100 cash.

According to festival coordinator Robert Vandal, while the majority of participants come from within a 60-mile radius, others have come from as far as Ohio, Michigan, Indianapolis, Merrillville and Chicago. Friday night’s cruise-in typically features between 200 and 250 cars and trucks, with approximately 150 to 200 participating in the show the next day. The number of motorcycles varies from year to year.

The cost to enter is $15 after May 11. The first 150 registrants will receive dash plaques. T-shirts are an additional $15. The entry fee for non-judged vehicles is $8. All proceeds from this event will go to the Wawasee Kiwanis for charitable projects, including supporting Riley Children’s Hospital, Teen Parents Succeeding, the Syracuse Community Center, local scholarships, baseball and softball youth leagues, the Harold Shrock Youth Complex and food baskets for those in need.

There is no cost to attend the show for those who are not bringing cars, trucks or motorcycles to display.
