Leesburg Seeks Democrat For Clerk Position
Last month, Jan Carter announced her resignation as Leesburg’s town clerk and now a Kosciusko County Democrat is sought to fill her unexpired term.
Carter has served as the town’s clerk for 2 1/2 years leaving another 1 1/2 years of her term vacant. A replacement is now being sought to fill the remainder of the term, but that replacement will need to be a Democrat.
Kosciusko County Clerk Ann Torpy said the position needs to be filled by a Democratic caucus because Carter won election as a Democrat. Applications for qualified candidates are now available at the Kosciusko County Clerk’s office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw. Those applications are available until May 21.
The county party is currently without a chairman due to the recent resignation of Terry Bartley. (See story). At 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, the Kosciusko County Democratic Party will elect a new chairman. When the new chairman is announced the Leesburg caucus will be set.
Voting for the Democratic party chairman is open to all precinct committee men and women and precinct vice-committee men and women. Voting must be done in person.
Nominations for qualifying candidates will be taken from the floor during the special caucus meeting on May 18. Candidates must be in good standing with the local Democratic party and must be present or have submitted a letter of intent to seek the position no later than 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15. Letters must be submitted to the secretary via email at [email protected], or dropped off at the Democratic Party Headquarters, 417 E. Winona Ave. Suite A, Warsaw.
