James O. Brown
James O. Brown, age 93, of Nappanee, Ind., died at 10:55 p.m. Monday, May 7, 2013, at IU Health Goshen Hospital.
He was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Dale, Okla., to William H. and Saloma M. (Guffy) Brown, and moved to the area in 1947. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He was a recipient of 2 Bronze Stars Medals and a Purple Heart Medal. He retired as a mail carrier.
Jim was a member of the First Church of God in Nappanee, a life member of the DAV in Goshen, Ind., the VFW in Goshen, and the American Legion in Nappanee.
Jim married Alta M. Hart on Mar. 5, 1943, in Goshen.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter: Marsha Marie (Roger) Disher, Nappanee; and sons: James Roger (Linda) Brown, New Paris, Ind.; and Randall Lee (Liz) Brown, Grand Rapids, Mich; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers: Clarence Ray Brown and Ralph Nelson Brown; and sisters: Ada M. Jarvis, Maybell Tarman and Lucille R. Waugaman.
Friends may visit the family from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee, and for an hour prior to the funeral service on Friday, which is at 11 a.m. at the First Church of God in Nappanee. Pastor Sam Bennett will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Center Cemetery with military graveside services.
