KCSD Warns Of Credit Card Scam
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and area law enforcement wish to warn citizens of a scam that has surfaced intensely in our area.
Individuals have recently been receiving emails that contain fraudulent information stating that the owner’s credit card has been suspended. The message continues on to state that activating the card is “quick and easy” and that they have “suspended it for your protection.”
The email then requests the user to complete a downloaded form that is attached to the original message and provide personal information including Social Security number, mother’s maiden name, credit card number and PIN number (see diagram from original email below).
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Detectives stated that the most recent information was provided by local citizens who do not currently own a credit card and immediately knew that it was a scam attempt on their email account.
Kosciusko County Sheriff Rocky Goshert stated that the attached information has been released by detectives to inform citizens of the various methods of criminal fraud currently being used against the public.
