Lucille E. Searfoss
Lucille E. Searfoss, 93, of Syracuse, Ind., passed away at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Millers’ Merry Manor in Syracuse.
She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Syracuse to Ross W. and Esther C. (Tiedt) Osborn.
She was a lifetime Syracuse area resident, graduated in 1937 from Syracuse High School and in 1941 from Purdue University with a BA in Physical Education and Home Economics.
On June 1, 1941, in Syracuse she married Robert T. “Bob” Searfoss, who preceded her in 1994. She retired in 1977 from Wawasee Community School Corporation as a Physical Education Teacher in North Webster after 8 ½ years.
She was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Syracuse, where she helped with the Thrift Shop and was a member of the Mothers Club since 1942.
She is survived by four daughters: Sherry (Tony) Norris, Gig Harbor, Wash.; Jane Stockinger, Grand Rapids, Mich; Sally (Ronald) Hanson, Carmel, Ind.; and Debra (Dwight) Hughes, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son: R.T. (Paula) Searfoss, Syracuse; and 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; husband; a daughter: Mary Jo Searfoss;
a grandson: Drew Searfoss; a great-granddaughter: Lily Hughes; and two brothers: William and Voyle Osborn.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long, Syracuse, with Rev. Mark Eastway of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
