Biomet Donates $1.5 Million To New YMCA
The YMCA is pleased to announce a $1.5 million pledge from Biomet Inc. The gift will be used in support of the construction of a new YMCA facility to be built on U.S. 30 and Mariner Drive.
The significance of the gift allows the Y to continue to fulfill its mission to provide life-enriching programs for the residents of Kosciusko County.
“The generous gift from Biomet is so greatly appreciated, especially at the early stages of our fundraising efforts,” said Chad Zaucha, YMCA CEO. “We are hopeful that other businesses, individuals, partners and foundations will share the vision to build a new YMCA so we can serve thousands more people in our community.”
Initial plans for the new Y include a health and wellness center, lap pool, instructional warm water pool, multi-purpose gathering spaces, a youth and teen center, a double gymnasium and outdoor space for day camp. While the Y hopes to open the new Y in early 2015, the size, scope and timing of the new Y facility will ultimately be determined by the generosity of the community in support of this effort.
“At Biomet, we believe strongly in giving back to our community. That’s why we wanted to support the Y, which is committed to serving the needs of our neighbors,” said Biomet President and CEO Jeff Binder. “This gift to the YMCA is an opportunity to touch the lives of families and individuals who seek healthier lifestyles, and for children who need a positive place to learn and grow. A strong and vibrant Y will ensure a thriving Kosciusko County.”
“The challenges facing our community, like so many, are no secret. The state of America’s health is a growing concern. Youth in our community need quality programs to keep them safe, healthy and prepare them for success,” said Zaucha. “We work to address these challenges every day and are committed to making them available to more people with the help of supporters like Biomet.”
Annually, the Kosciusko Community YMCA serves nearly 13,500 children and adults through membership and programs. Every day, the Y works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure everyone regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. In 2012 the Kosciusko Community YMCA provided $136,685.96 in financial assistance to make sure that happens.
