Elkhart County Boasts Highest Employment Increase
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Elkhart County, Ind., posted the largest increase in employment from September 2011 to September 2012. According to bureau, the ranking is a result of rising employment in the counties manufacturing sector, which added more than 4,700 jobs in 2011-2012.
This is the second time within the past few years that Elkhart has held top ranks in employment increases. According to the federal government, the county has led in employment growth between March 2010 and March 2011.
According to the report released yesterday, the county has boasted an increase of 6.9 percent over the year, compared to the national growth rate of 1.6 percent. The county to feature the biggest decline in unemployment was Benton County, Wash., which reported a a 5.2 percent decrease in employment. The report is compiled through the use of the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) program, which creates in depth information on employment and wages within each county within seven months after the end of each quarter.
