Millions Of Dollars Going To Private Schools
Dear Editor,
I just received a newsletter and, to say the least, I am beyond discouraged. Twenty-six million dollars of tax payer dollars going to fund the public school voucher system.
Our state representatives, in their infinite wisdom, decided to increase payments to private schools 11 percent while increasing overall education funding 2 percent. In simple terms, this means private schools will receive an additional $26 million. Not only that, but private schools receive the additional monies and public schools are making cuts.
Dear Representative, explain to me how private schools see an increase and public schools are provided ZERO dollars for professional development. It is the systematic destruction of education.
While private schools receive an increase on the backs of the tax payer, public schools have made drastic cuts in personnel, summer school programs, alternative education, and gifted and talented programs. As a result, private schools thrive with additional dollars being handed to them on a silver platter.
Try writing your congressmen about this and what do you receive in return? A pre-written response claiming they receive thousands of emails and they are unable to read all of them. However, they assure you that your opinion is important. Seriously! Our representatives represent their own interest not ours. Let me choose where you spend my money; after all it’s all about choice.
I am writing this since it appears our Indiana politicians turn a deaf ear to the needs of children. They refuse to act in the best interest of the people they claim to represent.
