Velma I. Berger
Velma I. Berger, 90, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, Ind., and formerly of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 7:54 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw after an extended illness.
She was born June 9, 1922, in Marshall County to Foster and Ilda (Greib) Dumph. Velma lived her lifetime in the Nappanee, Bremen and Warsaw area. She married Delmarr E. Berger on Dec. 20, 1941, in Nappanee. He preceded her in death June 23, 1994.
Mrs. Berger was a 1940 graduate of Nappanee High School. She was a homemaker and helped her husband with custodial work at the Nappanee United Methodist Church. She was an active member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and had sang in the choir. She also enjoyed reading.
She is survived by daughters: Carol (Ronald) Klotz, Milford, Ind.; Marlene Hirt, Monticello, Ind.; Susan (Doug) Emerson, Bellvista, Ariz.; a son: Loren Berger, South Bend, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a half sister: Glenda Sheets, Nappanee.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son: LaMar Berger; a daughter-in-law: Joyce Berger; granddaughter: Sheila Kay Ellis; and sisters: Dorothy Hollar and Mary Holdeman.
Visitation will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 am, Friday, Feb. 29, at the Nappanee United Methodist Church. Reverend Jim Davidson will officiate and burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.
