South Side Gets Best Of Wawasee
SYRACUSE — A 20-3 run in the second quarter was just the medicine visiting Fort Wayne South Side needed Friday night in a 73-55 win over Wawasee in boys hoops at the Hardwood Teepee.
The huge second quarter for the Archers turned a one-point deficit after one played into a 16-point advantage at the half, taking a 34-18 lead into the locker room. South Side (3-14) had lost their last five games coming into Friday night, albeit to a tough Fort Wayne-area schedule. Leading the visitors to victory were the 23 points from Devin Jones and 15 points from Eric Hairston.
Wawasee (5-14) had four players in double figures, led by 15 points from Gage Reinhard, 12 points apiece from Alex Clark and Jake Hutchinson and 11 points from Jeffrey Moore. The Warriors, however, only had five points from the remainder of the roster, which came from Stori Bright.
The Wawasee JV edged South Side, 46-44, in the night’s first contest.
South Side will host 2A juggernauts Fort Wayne Luers Wednesday, which beat the Archers earlier in Summit Athletic Conference play in early December, but this time meeting in a non-conference matchup. Wawasee will head to Tippecanoe Valley next Friday for its final regular season contest before hosting the 3A Wawasee Sectional beginning Feb. 26.
