Prep Divers Compete In Regional
SOUTH BEND – Tippecanoe Valley diver Barbie Kimmel saw her season end Tuesday night in the regional at South Bend Riley.
Kimmel, a senior, placed 20th with a score of 180.30. She was the runner-up in the one-meter competition at the Warsaw Sectional Saturday.
Junior Samantha Reese of South Bend St. Joseph won the diving regional title Tuesday night with a top score of 437.65.
A trio of area divers placed in the top eight Tuesday night to earn a berth in the State Finals Saturday. Senior Melissa Berger of NorthWood was second with a score of 396.70, while senior Quinn Bixler of Rochester placed fifth with a score of 367.85 and junior Jenna Denlinger of Northridge was seventh with a 357.60. Bixler was the sectional champion at Warsaw Saturday.
Junior Alexandria Roskos of Elkhart Memorial finished in ninth place with a score of 340.15 and junior Emily Yoder of Goshen was 16th with a 219.80.
The top eight finishers in the regional competition advance to the state finals Saturday at the Indiana University Natatorium on the IUPUI campus in Indianapolis. The diving prelims and semifinals begin at 9 a.m. The swim portion of the State Finals begins Friday night with the prelims at 6 p.m. Finals in all events begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
