Wawasee Suffers Another Tragic Student Loss
On Friday evening, the Wawasee community was shocked and saddened by the death of a student. Casey Ochs, 15, of the Barbee Lake area, tragically took his own life. Ochs is the second Wawasee High School student to end his life this school year.
The matter sparked WHS to send the following letter and, WHS Principal Don Harman provided us with the letter to also share with the community:
Dear Students and Parents,
We are saddened at the death last evening of a student from Wawasee High School.
Our teachers and staff have been informed by me this morning so that they may comfort and be available for our students throughout the school day as well as before and after school on Monday, Jan. 21. We will have trained staff and counselors available to answer questions and offer support throughout the school week. We will also have area pastors and youth leaders from churches in our communities available for students during the school day throughout the week.
On Sunday, Jan. 20, the North Webster Church of God will provide an opportunity for our youth in our communities to gather for support and allow for conversations to take place. This opportunity will take place between 10 a.m. and noon.
Although talking about death is not easy, it is important. If you feel the need to talk to someone, please see one of our trained staff or counselors. You also may call for assistance at Wawasee High School at 574-457-3147 Ext. 200 or Ext. 204.

All of our staff are working together to assist the students during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Don Harman
Principal
