Wawasee Kiwanis Soup Supper
It is time to brush off those wonderful family recipe files and prepare to crown a new winner. The fourth annual Wawasee Kiwanis Soup Supper will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25. This event will be held at the Syracuse Community Center.
The special aspect of this soup supper is that the soups are provided by local merchants, civic groups, individuals and local restaurants from the area. They are in competition to receive a trophy for “Best Soup” in our community. Of the 15 entrants, last year’s title was taken by Margaret Vandal, who was the overall winner of the competition with her entry of Tuscan Tomato Bisque.
The judges for this event will be those who attend the supper from our local community. Each person attending the soup supper will be provided a ballot listing all of the soup entries. Attendees will be given sample portions of the soups. After selecting the soup of their choice and turning in their ballot, they will be given a bowl of that soup to enjoy with the rest of their meal that will include crackers, a beverage and dessert for a price of $5.
Proceeds from this event will help benefit the many projects that the Wawasee Kiwanis support to help children within our local community and around the world.
You may enter this competition by submitting your name, address, phone number and your favorite soup. Call Elaine Pearson at 260-856-2287 or go to the Wawasee Kiwanis website, www.wawaseekiwanis.org. You will be asked to prepare three to four gallons of your favorite soup recipe. On the day of the supper, bring your soup to the community center by 3 p.m. and have your name and phone number on your soup container.
Following the soup supper will be the Winter Carnival Dance from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Weather permitting, on Saturday, Jan. 26, the Winter Carnival with snowmobile races and drags will be held.
