Bonnie M. Walters
Bonnie M. Walters, 85, of Rochester, Ind., and formerly of Akron, Ind. and the Gilead, Ind., area, passed away at 3:38 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Life Care Center, Rochester.
She was born April 13, 1927, in Miami County, Ind., to Andrew and Bessie (Hinsey) Funnell. She was married on Oct. 2, 1943, in Peru, Ind., to Donald ‘Pete’ Walters, who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1988.
Bonnie was a cook at Gilead School, she worked at Chamberlain Products of Akron, the Grocery Store in Akron, and also at Wiles Apparel of Rochester, as well as being a homemaker. She attended Gilead School. She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and she also attended the Olive Branch Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, playing card and board games, playing euchre with her small group, reading books and spending time with her grandchildren. She also really enjoyed going out to eat with her friends.
She is survived by two sons: Randall Walters, Kokomo, Ind.; Michael (Peggy) Walters, Rochester; five grandchildren: Kelly (Dr. Cameron) Vanlaningham; Troy (Becky) Walters; Rhonda Walters; Regina Walters; and Rodney Walters; nine great-grandchildren: Justin, Jon and James Walters; Luke, Logan, Laci and Leia Walters; Noah and Carly Vanlaningham; sister: Nina Opple, Rochester; special family and neighbors: Gary and Sar Hudson, Macy, Ind.; Elodie (Dan) Grief and their child, Lauren; Carrie (Jon) Finch; Abbey (Josh) Depoy and their children, Kendall and Hayden; as well as her special friend; Rita Walters.
She is preceded in death by her husband; sister: Katharine Kuntz; and great-granddaughter: Courtney Walters.
Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home. Pastor Michael McFarland will officiate. Burial will take place at Gilead Cemetery, Gilead.
