The Mentone Fire Department is collecting canned goods and other nonperishable items to donate to Helping Hands, and even Santa is getting in on the service work.

The fire department has placed boxes for donations around Mentone in local businesses. On Sunday, Dec. 23, volunteers with Mentone Fire Department will accompany Santa throughout town as he delivers candy to homes with porch lights lit.

While Santa is making his rounds, he and the volunteers from MFD will also be collecting nonperishable food donations. Santa and his helpers will be more than happy to pick up donations while making his rounds, beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 23.

To take part in donating to Helping Hands, and to receive a holiday visit from Santa, just have porch lights turned on.
