Manchester Inducts Students
Nine Manchester University students are new initiates of Alpha Mu Gamma national collegiate foreign language honor society. In addition, Dr. Beate C. Gilliar, associate professor of English and a native of Germany, was inducted to honor her significant contributions to the study of language at MU.
Alpha Mu Gamma recognizes outstanding achievement in foreign language by college students.
The 2012 inductees: Alma Butts, senior Spanish and biology-chemistry major from Osceola, Ind.; Sarah Carman, junior English and math major (Spanish) from Liberty, Ind.; Aubrey Conard, sophomore French major from Indianapolis; Allison Harper, junior biology-chemistry major (Spanish) from Granger, Ind.; and Ted Maldonado, sophomore psychology major (German) from Portage, Ind.
Also inducted: Paula Rodriguez Ormaza, sophomore physics major (Spanish) from Quito, Ecuador; Marie Stump, senior English/language arts education major (Spanish) from Garrett, Ind.; Matthew Suderman, senior Spanish and history major from Bluffton, Ohio; and Natalie Szymkowski, senior Spanish major from LaPorte, Ind.
The Manchester University chapter of Alpha Mu Gamma is led by junior history major (French minor) ShaNell Brazo of Claypool, Ind., as president; senior exercise science major (Spanish minor) Hayley Weagant of Chico, Calif., as vice president; senior exercise science major (Spanish minor) Taylor Daggett of Cincinnati as secretary; and senior elementary education major (TESOL* minor) Kayla Wiseman of Morocco, Ind., as treasurer. Faculty advisor is Dr. Lynne F. Margolies, chair of the Department of Modern Languages and associate professor of Spanish.
