Sarah S. Martin
Sarah S. Martin, 97, of Nappanee, Ind., died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at her home following a long illness.
She was a lifetime area resident and had lived at her home for 21 years.
She was born Nov. 29, 1914 in Elkhart County to Henry E. and Elizabeth (Shrock) Martin. She was a member of Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. She married Herman Martin on Sept. 5, 1936, in Elkhart County. He preceded in death in 1971.
Sarah is survived by sons: Mahlon (Hannah Mary) Martin, Syracuse, Ind.; Ora (Linda) Martin, Etna Green, Ind.; daughters: Mary Martin, Nappanee, Ind.; Lena (Loyal) Martin, Goshen, Ind.; Inez (Vernon) Kurtz, Xenia, Ill.; and Sharon (Leland) Shaum, Goshen, Ind.; 31 grandchildren; 93 great grandchildren; 18 great-great- grandchildren; and sisters: Maryetta Martin, Nappanee; and Wilma Zimmerman, Wakarusa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son: Henry Martin; a daughter: Anna Miller; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers: John, Enos and Harvey Martin.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ramer Mennonite Youth Center, 24647 CR 44, Nappanee. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church. The home ministry of the church will lead the service. Burial will follow at Yellow Creek Wisler Mennonite Church Cemetery.
