Edwin S. Purrington
Edwin S. Purrington, 93, of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 6:42 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Chicago to Franklin L. and Ruth (Stedman) Purrington. He was resident of Warsaw since 1977. Edwin was a volunteer fireman for Winona Lake and served as fire chief.
Edwin was the director of Winona School of Photography, served as town manager of Winona Lake along with being the building inspector for the community. Edwin also was manager of the Ford Motor Company photography department and worked for Life magazine as a photographer.
Edwin served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer during WWII as a photographer in the Pacific Theater in the photography unit. Edwin attended Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Edwin is survived by his wife: Barbara Shelton-Purrington, Warsaw; three sons: Edwin (Shirley) Purrington Jr., Fort Worth, Texas; James (Sandy) Purrington, Whitmore Lake, Mich.; and Frank Purrington, Dearborn, Mich.; a step-son: Jeffrey J. (Cynthia) Shelton, Warsaw; a step-daughter: Cynthia B. (Terry) Walsh, Conroe, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother: Franklin L Purrington, Shingletown, Calif.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and two step-children.
Calling hours are scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 9, at Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will being at noon in the church with Pastor Erik Ohman officiating and Military Honors at a later date. Interment will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
