Ray Grumme
He was born on June 30, 1949, in Indianapolis to Fredrick and Iris (Jerry) Grumme. Ray attended Howe Military School and then went on to graduate from Syracuse High School. There he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Wolfe. They wed in 1969 and had three wonderful kids, Jan (Jason) Brooks, Ted (Lori) Grumme and Jon Grumme. These children brought six more wonderful kids into Barb and Ray’s world, their grandchildren: Ryan Main, Delaney Brooks, Sadie & Greyston Grumme, Connor and Sophia Grumme.
Ray and Barb owned and operated the Wawasee Village Hardware. During this time, Ray found his calling working with tools. In his machine shop, Ray could build, repair or create almost anything. If it needed fixing, you took it to Ray.
Ray was an accomplished inventor, machinist, fabricator, and a “solutions guy” who many people counted on to solve their mechanical problems. It was a gift he had that everyone appreciated.
Ray loved life’s simple pleasures. He loved his family, his friends, Lake Wawasee, vacationing in Naples, Fla., and of course golfing with his buddies.
Ray is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren and five brothers: David White, Jay (Sandy) Grumme, Marc White, Tom (Susie) Grumme, Don (Judy) Grumme; and his beloved step-mother: Jeanne Grumme ,who was a part of his life for more than 40 years; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Dale Grumme; and his sister: Jan Russell.
God must have needed something fixed, so he called Ray home leaving wonderful memories for all of us left behind.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, at Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse. A Celebration of Ray’s life will be at 2:30 p.m.
