WHS Announces Concert
Wawasee High School Instrumental Music Department announces its first concert of the academic year for the concert band and string orchestra. The two ensembles, under the direction of Joyce Dubach, will be performing a Halloween concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the high school auditorium.
Admission is free and the audience is encouraged to come in costume.
The concert will feature music by both ensembles, performing separately and together. The band will play James Swearingen’s “Winchester Chronicles” and “Rainbow Connection,” the theme from the original “Muppet” movie.
The string orchestra will play Richard Stephan’s “Fanfare and Frippery,” and a Chinese folk song, “Jasmine Flower,” which they performed in concert with a massed orchestra at the fifth annual Great Lakes Confucius Music Festival in Valparaiso Thursday.
Together, the band and orchestra will play selections appropriate to the holiday, including the theme from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the theme from the TV series “The Munsters,” and a medley of movie themes by Danny Elfman, who composed the sound tracks for “Tales from the Crypt,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Edward Scissorhands,” “Beetlejuice” and “Spiderman.”
The ensembles have been working on ear training and improvisation this year, and they will demonstrate some of their improvisation skills at various points throughout the evening concert. The ensemble members will be in costume, so anything could happen.
