Eileen L. Mishler
Eileen L. Mishler, 88, of Nappanee, Ind., died at 9:04 pm, Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 26, 1924, in Elkhart to Wilbur and Ethel (Martin) Madlem. She was a 1942 graduate of Nappanee High School and a lifetime resident of Nappanee.
On Nov. 25, 1944, she married Gerald Mishler in Wakarusa. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1981.
Mrs. Mishler was a homemaker and had also worked at Martin Hardware for 23 years. She was a member and deacon of Union Center Church of the Brethren, where she had also served as Sunday School Director and teacher for many years. She was a member of Better Homes Club and the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary.
As a youth, she enjoyed being in 4-H. Eileen enjoyed reading to and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching and participating in sports with them.
Eileen also enjoyed sewing and piecing quilts and writing poems. She enjoyed riding bike and mowing her lawn, which she was still doing this last summer.
Surviving are her daughters: Sandra J. (Wayne) Scheumann, Nappanee; Barbara (Steve) Quakenbush, Canon City, Colo.; a son: John E. (Cathy) Mishler, Elkhart; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Norma (Paul) Pletcher, Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and a sister: Evelyn Madlem.
Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for 1 hour prior to the funeral service, which will be at 10:30 am, Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Union Center Church of the Brethren. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Davis and burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
