John C. Bucher
John C. Bucher, 69, of Columbia City, Ind., and formerly of Silver Lake, Ind., died at 7:08 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where he had been a resident for the past week and a half.
He was born June 22, 1943, in Rochester, Ind., a son of Daniel M. and Barbara J. (Ferverda) Bucher. His formative years were spent in Silver Lake. He graduated from Silver Lake High School.
On Sept. 2, 1962, he was united in marriage to Karen S. Heckaman. They made their home at Diamond Lake and later Roann before moving to Whitley County where they have resided for the past 44 years.
John spent his work career with the telephone company now known as Centurylink. He was a service and repair technician with 40 years of service. He retired in 2006.
His memberships included Columbia City United Methodist Church and the Gideon’s. He enjoyed his semi-annual fishing trips with his wife and good friends.
Surviving relatives also include his wife of 50 years: Karen; two daughters: Monica ( Todd) Bouck, Woodsboro, Texas; and Ann (Scott) Hill, Columbia City; a son: Daniel (Anita) Bucher, South Whitley, Ind.; grandchildren: Andy Bouck, Tommie Ann Green, Toni Bouck, Cody Bucher, Brett Hill and Joe Hill; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Bill (Jacki) Bucher, North Manchester, Ind.; and Jerry (Janice) Bucher, Michigan; two sisters: Judy (Kent) French, Silver Lake; and Roberta (Jim) Estes; and a step-mother: Betty Scott, Akron, Ind.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City; and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Columbia City United Methodist Church, 605 Forest Parkway, Columbia City. The funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the church.
