Donald D. Phend
Donald D. Phend, 76, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 7:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in his residence.
On March 21, 1936, he was born in Columbia City, Ind., to Donald and Henrietta (Nelson) Phend. Donald married Shirley World on Aug. 31, 1956, in Forest Park, Ill.
Donald lived in Columbia City until he got married, then moved to Illinois, eventually moving back to the area 32 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1954-1956 with the military police. He graduated with honors from Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, Ind., receiving a degree in electronics. Donald also worked in construction for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post #253, North Webster and The Leathernecks Club, Columbia City.
Donald is survived by his wife: Shirley Phend, Tippecanoe Lake, Leesburg; his daughter: Pamela (Dale) Jonas, Steger, Ill.; a brother: Richard (Marthene) Phend; three sisters: Pat (Dave) Katt, Judy Parkinson and Sally Black; three grandchildren: Amber (Adam), Emily (Dale) and Brandon; three great-grandchildren: Andrew, Zoey and Lilly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son: Jeffrey Phend.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Military honors will be given at 5 p.m. in the funeral home by the American Legion Post #253, North Webster. Burial will be at a later date.
