Boilers Rebound With Big Win
A 50-yard pass from Caleb TerBush to Akeem Hunt sparked 34 unanswered points from Purdue in an eventual 54-16 rout of Eastern Michigan at Ross-Ade Stadium.
Purdue led 13-0 in the second quarter before Eastern’s Pudge Cotton picked off a TerBush pass and ran it back 28-yards for a score. A 23-yard Dylan Mulder field goal cut the lead to 13-9 before Purdue finally got going.
The Hunt touchdown, which capped a 99-yard touchdown drive, was proceeded by possibly the biggest play of the game, an 87-yard run by Brandon Cottom. Purdue’s Josh Johnson then intercepted a pass and Purdue were in business at the Eastern 33. The drive ended in another touchdown when TerBush reached the endzone with nine seconds left to give the Boilers a 33-9 lead.Hunt added another 56-yard touchdown run in the second half and finished with 106 yards on just four carries. Purdue racked up 392 yards on the ground and 576 yards overall and also had rushing scores from Akeem Shavers, Raheem Mostert and Danny Anthrop. Antavian Edison caught an 18-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Purdue (2-1) will enter a bye week before returning to Ross-Ade Stadium on Sept. 29 when Marshall pays a visit. Eastern Michigan (0-3) have a tall task ahead, heading into East Lansing next Saturday to take on a Michigan State team that were manhandled by Notre Dame Saturday night.
