John R. Gunter
John R. Gunter, 48, Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at his home.
He was born Nov. 1, 1963, in Warsaw to Melvin and Bonnie (Kinzie) Gunter. He graduated from Warsaw Community High School Class of 1982.
John entered into the United States Navy at AFEES Indianapolis, Ind., on Feb. 2, 1986, and worked within the electrical maintenance field and for a short time as a recruiter. GSEJ John R. Gunter was honorably discharged and retired in 2000 from PERSUPPDET NTC Great Lakes, Ill., in 2000 after an 18 year career.
He lived most of his life in Warsaw and worked at Medtronic Inc., Warsaw. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49; enjoyed camping and boating (just floating on the water); road trips with the destination a surprise to everyone but him; loving father and brother; his smile would light up the room and his heart was made of gold with his caring spirit and thoughtfulness;
Mr. Gunter is survived by three daughters: Ashley (Chris) VanDurmen, Warsaw; Megan Gunter, Warsaw; and Amelia Kellog, Walnut Creek, Calif.; a grandson: Jacoby VanDurmen; a brother: Timothy Gunter, Warsaw; a sister: Betsy (Ray) Scott, North Webster, Ind.; and eight nieces and nephews: Josh Gunter, David Gunter, Dan Gunter, Joe Gunter, Haylee Wagner, Cynthia Wagner, Blake Scott, Jiles Scott.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Bonnie Gunter; a sister: Debra Gunter; and a sister-in-law: Deborah Gunter.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at the the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by Warsaw’s American Legion Post #49 and VFW Post #1126. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, at a later date.
