Roland L. Sprong
Roland L. Sprong, 85, of Middlebury, Ind., and formerly of Warsaw, Ind., passed away at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.
He was born Oct. 17, 1926, in Huntington County, Ind., to John W. and Amanda (Fahl) Sprong. Roland was a 1945 graduate of Warsaw High School. He faithfully served his country in World War II with the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was formerly of Warsaw and moved to Middlebury in 1990. On Jan. 5, 1990, in Elkhart, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Mae Stahl. He is a retired machinist, formerly employed by Sun Metal of Warsaw, IN and was also a self-employed farmer. He is a member of Faith Baptist Church of Middlebury and Grace Baptist Church of Belleview, FL. In addition, he was a life member of Warsaw American Legion Post #49 and Warsaw V.F.W. Post #1126 and 50 year member of Warsaw Masonic Lodge and Elkhart York Rite.
Mr. Sprong is survived by his wife: Marjorie Mae Sprong, Middlebury; a daughter Joan (companion David Sloan) Parker, Warsaw; a sister: Martha Ann Molebash, Elkhart; brothers: Ralph and John Raymond Sprong, both of Warsaw; one stepson; one stepdaughter; two grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services are scheduled. McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel Warsaw, is entrusted with arrangements.
