Edward Carten
Edward Carten, 80, of Warsaw, Ind., died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Midlothian, Ill., to Thomas Francis and Lillie May (Dickeuse) Carten. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Kittywake. On Sept. 13, 1958, he married Frances Swanson in Midlothian.
He was an employee of Sears & Roebuck and retired in 1993 after 40 years. Edward and Fran moved to Warsaw in 1999. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Southshore Country Club. He enjoyed traveling and the outdoors. He was a member of the American Legion Post 253 in North Webster, Ind., and St Martin De Porres Parish, Syracuse, Ind.
Edward is survived by his wife of 54 years: Frances Carten; a son: Daniel (Lyn) Carten; a daughter: Cathy (Ted) Kramer; six grandchildren: Scott Kramer, Tiffany and Jenna Miller, Danielle, Kendall and Cassidy Carten; and two great-grandchildren: Damian and Mia.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Martin De Porres Parish, Syracuse. Also at the church after the Funeral Mass there will be Military Honors by the American Legion Post 253, North Webster. Father Richard Hire will officiate the services. Burial will be at a later date.
