Helen Virginia Rhoads
Helen Virginia Rhoads, 98, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw, Ind., and formerly of Spokane, Wash., passed away at 8:40 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at Miller’s Merry Manor Warsaw.
She was born Jan. 28, 1914, in Arlington, Wash., William Alexander and Belle Atkinson Muma. She married J. Calvin Rhoads on May 24, 1942, in St. John, Wash.. He passed away Feb. 16, 2005.
Mrs. Rhoads was a wheat farmer’s wife and had also been a telephone operator in St. John, Wash., where she was also a homemaker and caretaker of housing apartments in Spokane, Wash. She graduated from St. John Washington High School and attended Los Angeles Pacific College where she studied liberal arts and music.
She is survived by a daughter: Judith (Ronald) Brown, Warsaw; a foster son: Daniel Norr, Loon Lake, Wash.; a granddaughter: Jennifer Norr Barrett, Spokane, Wash.; three nieces: Helen Rhoads Wiley, Junction City, Ore.; Mary Ann Rhoads Kennedy, Bainbridge Island, Wash.; and Sharon Rhoads Pratt, Cuba City, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her husband: J. Calvin Rhoads; a daughter: Jana Fern Rhoads Trude; a sister and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at New Hope Freewill Baptist Church in Warsaw. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev. David Cripe. Burial will follow at
Mentone Cemetery Mentone, Ind.
